Forklift axle

This is a forklift axle (output shaft/drive shaft) supplied to HEP Automobile Forklifts, made from 40Cr alloy structural steel. It serves as a core load-bearing component of the forklift’s transmission system, primarily responsible for transmitting power, supporting the wheels, and withstanding cyclic loads under heavy‑duty operating conditions. Featuring high strength, excellent wear resistance, and superior impact resistance, it is ideally suited for the heavy‑load applications typical of industrial forklifts.
  • Product Description
  • 1. Basic Information and Positioning

    • Associated Device : HEPU Automobile manufactures industrial forklifts—both electric and internal‑combustion—for heavy‑duty applications such as material handling and warehouse logistics.
    • Component Role : A core component of the forklift’s transmission and travel system, it serves as a drive shaft or half‑shaft, with one end connected to the reduction gear or drive axle and the other end linked to the wheel. It transmits torque and supports the wheel, enabling the forklift’s forward motion; it can also function as a steering axle or mast axle, enduring heavy loads, impact forces, and cyclic loading.
    • Supply Attribute : Original‑equipment and aftermarket components designed to match HEPU Automotive’s forklift models, conforming to their installation dimensions and performance specifications to ensure the reliability and consistency of the drivetrain.

    2. Material and Process Characteristics

    • Materials :40Cr Medium-carbon alloy structural steel is a classic material for heavy-duty shaft components.
    • Heat treatment process: quenching and tempering (quenching followed by high-temperature tempering), which yields excellent overall mechanical properties; the hardness typically ranges to HRC28-32 It exhibits high strength, excellent toughness, good hardenability, and superior fatigue resistance. The critical journal and spline sections can undergo surface high-frequency quenching to enhance wear resistance and contact fatigue strength, achieving a hardness of HRC 50 or higher.
    • Manufacturing Advantages: The journal and spline sections are machined using precision turning and grinding processes, achieving high dimensional accuracy and surface finish. This ensures precise fit with bearings, gears, and wheel hubs, reduces transmission noise and wear, and enhances shaft life and transmission efficiency.

    3. Structural Features

    • Overall structure : The stepped shaft design features multiple sections of varying diameters, including journal and spline/keyway segments, to accommodate the installation and mating of bearings, gears, and hubs, thereby enabling power transmission and component positioning.
    • Functional Segmentation :
    • One end features a splined/keyway connection: it is used to mate with the output shaft of the drive axle or reducer, transmitting torque. The splined design ensures reliable high‑torque transmission and prevents slippage.
    • Intermediate journal section: Used to mount bearings, oil seals, and other components; it supports the shaft and ensures coaxial alignment, while bearing radial loads and impact forces.
    • The other end is the wheel‑mounting section: it connects to the hub or wheel, transmits torque, and supports the wheel. Certain shaft sections feature threads or flanges to facilitate wheel installation and secure fastening.
    • Process Design The shaft body features a stepped transition design to prevent stress concentrations and enhance fatigue resistance; the critical journal surfaces are ground to ensure tight tolerances for roundness and cylindricity, meeting the high‑precision fit requirements of the bearings.

    4. Performance and Application Value

    • Core Advantages : The high strength of 40Cr material, combined with a quenching and tempering heat treatment, enables this shaft to withstand cyclic loads, impact loads, and torsional stresses during heavy‑duty forklift operations. Precision‑machined journal surfaces and splines ensure tight fit and reliable performance of the transmission system, reducing the risk of failure and making it well suited for industrial forklifts operating under high‑load, high‑frequency conditions.
    • Compatible Scenarios : The drive axle half-shafts, travel drive axles, steering axle shafts, and mast lifting axles of Hopu forklifts are widely used in heavy‑duty material handling applications such as warehousing, logistics, and manufacturing, serving as critical components that ensure the stable operation of the forklift’s transmission and travel systems.
